Feb 2 weird celebrations

Candlemas is a religious celebration marking the end of the Epiphany season.

Groundhog Day determines if we will suffer through six additional weeks of winter. Phil says six more weeks in 2008. Check out the Pennsylvania wonder. The holiday that started prior to the American celebration was Germany's Hedgehog Day. And the Roman Hedgehog Day took place first, so the premise of this celebration has a long history.

Imbolic celebrates the early signs of spring. Goddess Brigid (Brigit, Bride), who later became a Christian saint, is honored. Celtic background about this celebration is available.

Teach Your Daughter to Volunteer Day sounds like a wonderful idea. Sponsored by We-Win, this is a day to get out into the community and volunteer. By sharing your ideas and willingness to complete a task, the world will become more tolerable and human.

Sneeze Day isn't about something tickling your nose. It isn't about allergies. And it's definitely not about Kleenex. It is about the first image caputred on film by Alexander Graham Bell. Guess what he filmed. Go on, guess. You know you want to. That's right. A sneeze.
